At VMworld 2018, the IT Central Station team scoured the show floor, event sessions and the coffee stands with one goal: to find out what VMware customers really thought about  vRealize Operations (vROps).

As the leading site for enterprise technology user reviews, we are always looking for user feedback that can help our growing community of tech professionals make future buying decisions for their companies. When the IT Central Station events team goes to conferences like VMworld, we have the unique opportunity to reach a large group of people in one place who are all too happy to share their opinions.

As we listened to what people had to say at VMworld, we discovered that those customers giving reviews of vROps highlighted similar features that contributed to their overall positive experiences with this top ranked virtualization management tool. In this post, we delve into three of these top-mentioned themes in more detail, which we hope will help others looking for honest, unbiased tech reviews in their market research.

Performance optimization

Many vROps customers who attended VMworld 2018 highlighted its ability to optimize their workload performance as a particularly valuable feature:

“It allows us to engineer our infrastructure more efficiently, because vROps will tell us capacity-wise if we are overbuilt, so we can scale back. We have learned to right-size our stuff much better since we have been using vROps.” – Systems Engineer at a communications service provider

“The most valuable feature is the ability to right-size a workload, based on historical data for that workload. It has saved us quite a bit of money by making those workloads run more efficiently and it has allowed us to recover a lot of wasted resources.” – Senior Systems Engineer at an energy company with 10,001+ employees

Capacity management

Capacity management is another valuable feature that came up among vROps customers at VMworld, and its ability to help companies become proactive in their operations instead of reactive:

“There are many valuable features. The top feature is historical trending analysis and future workload predictions. There’s a workload forecaster/predictor model in there and it’s very helpful for capacity planning.” – IT Specialist at a government organization with 10,000+ employees

“The primary benefit we’re getting is from an operational standpoint. It has helped us to operationalize our processes and procedures. It has also helped us to stay ahead of our capacity planning so that we become more predictive, versus reactive. And then, the analysis features available with it allow us to do very high-level, enhanced root-cause analysis on events and issues that arise.” – Kieron I., Principle System Engineer at a financial services firm with 1,000+ employees

Intelligent remediation

Another notable feature that came up often among vROps users at VMworld is its monitoring and dashboarding capabilities, which are particularly helpful for intelligent remediation:

“This solution has helped to reduce time to troubleshoot issues, improve quality of service to users, and provide costs savings through higher capacity utilization. The system dashboards allow us to drill down into systems and find how they are talking to each other. They allow us to fix issues quickly and easily for the end user.” – System Engineer at a retailer with 10,001+ employees

“It does exactly what I program it to do at this point, which is to tell me if I’ve got machines running out of disk space or over-utilizing CPU or memory. The monitoring component of it is the most valuable feature.” – William E., Director Of Infrastructure Services at Yavapai College
