Sneak Peek: See What the Hype around Horizon is All About

It’s hard to believe another year has gone by since the last VMworld, yet here we are more ready than ever to share our new innovations. Our customers have asked us to keep innovating so they can continue to simplify management, deploy on infrastructure of their choice, and ensure they are delivering the best experience for their end users. The Horizon team has been hard at work on all of this and we’re excited to provide a look at what’s just around the corner.

Horizon

Elastic Infrastructure

We’ve continued to enhance our offerings so customers can deploy on the infrastructure of their choice – whether in the cloud, on-premises, or both. Horizon 7 running on VMware Cloud on AWS will soon support Instant Clones, App Volumes, and User Environment Manager as a preview. VMware Cloud on AWS is especially appealing to customers who have an on-premises Horizon 7 deployment and want to leverage the cloud for use cases such as disaster recovery and bursting. Combining Instant Clones with elastic DRS on AWS is a powerful and cost-effective solution to disaster recovery, as customers don’t have to maintain an entire secondary datacenter and pay for resources they aren’t using, they can simply scale on-demand on VMware Cloud in the event of a disaster.

Horizon

In addition to Horizon 7, the team continues to make significant updates to the Horizon Cloud solution giving customers more capabilities and more choices when it comes to cloud hosted VDI. Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure now supports additional VM types and locations, including Azure Government, giving customers the ability to select the Azure VM type that best suits their needs based on price and performance. For added security, integrated Azure Disk Encryption within the Horizon Cloud admin console automates the entire process of encrypting the virtual disk and provides enhanced security for Horizon Cloud desktops and apps. Customers utilizing Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure can leverage both RDS as well as Windows 10 desktops and applications.

Automated Management

Many organizations rely on desktop virtualization to centrally deliver Windows desktops to any device, but they often use separate tools to manage their physical Windows desktops. In a new tech preview, we’ve extended Workspace ONE modern management for Windows 10 to persistent virtual desktops as well, so administrators can manage both physical devices and virtual desktops with the same platform, which simplifies administration. Administrators will be able to monitor, set policies, and update OS images for persistent virtual desktops within the Workspace ONE platform.

We’ve also made management with User Environment Manager simpler. Now, customers can download application templates from the VMware marketplace to quickly create personalization configurations.

User Experience

Today’s employees expect a great user experience and that continues to be a focus for us. Network Intelligence with support for QoS for Blast Extreme enables simplified endpoint configuration options while improving user experience. Multi-media redirection for HTML live streaming enhances the user experience while eliminating datacenter bottlenecks.

Horizon

Several GPU enhancements for Horizon 7 include AMD Radeon Pro v340 MxGPU support for simplified licensing, NVIDIA Tesla V100 graphics card support for high-end graphics, and vMotion for NVIDIA GPUs eliminate downtime and increase user productivity.

We’re very excited about how the latest improvements in Horizon will continue to simplify management, offer a broad range of deployment options, and deliver the best user experience – ultimately enabling IT to empower employees to drive impactful business outcomes. To learn more:
